October 14, 2014 (LOOMIS, CA) –Soroptimist International of Loomis Basin announces that applications are being accepted for community awards. Applications are due starting November 15, 2014, depending upon the award, and are available at www.soroptimistloomis.com. Completed applications can be mailed to PO Box 1141, Loomis CA 95650. Live Your Dream Award
This award assists women who provide the primary source of financial support for their families by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment. Recipients may use the cash award to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation. Eligible applicants must reside in the Loomis Basin, demonstrate financial need, and be enrolled in, or have been accepted to, a vocational/skills training program or an undergraduate degree program. Previous winners of Women’s Opportunity Award are not eligible. Applications are due by November 15, 2014.
Violet Richardson Award
High school girls, between the ages 14 to 17 on December 1, 2014, who live in the Loomis Basin and volunteer in the community are encouraged to apply. This award goes to a girl who works to make the world a better place, particularly for women and girls, and to the charity of her choice related to her volunteerism. Applications, which are also available from high school counselors, are due by December 1, 2014.
Teacher Grants
These small grants are awarded to multiple teachers to help fund long-term projects that will benefit numerous classes over time. Previous recipients have used the funds for books, music, science project equipment, historic costumes and other similar projects that benefit the students and community. The grant request can be from any area of study. Applications are due by December 1, 2014.
