Members Enjoy Comraderie While Crafting Bags
Thank you to President Rae for hosting the April Program meeting at her house. We worked on sewing, ironing and pulling ribbons through bags to hold Days for Girlssustainable sanitary kits. Several participants shared how wonderful it felt to chat informally, work on a meaningful project and feel uplifted by women in our club community. See Rae if you’d like to work on part of this project at home.
Club Receives Thank You Cards
The club received these lovely thank you cards from a scholarship recipient and Acres of Hope where we updated the patio and facilitated activities last month. Some of the ladies wrote notes on the card of busy bees that represented our members taking action: “your kindness was well appreciated,” “thank you for all your love and time,” “thank you so much for coming out,” “thank you for your kindness,” and “thank you so much for everything.”
President Rae’s Message
As the end of our fiscal year comes closer, I’ve been reflecting on the amazing year we have embraced. In the month of May, we’ll host our Tostada Bingo Fundraiser as well as our Mixer mid-month to introduce people to the club. We have all been extremely busy but carrying out the Soroptimist mission keeps us committed with a joyful heart.
I’d like to continue the idea of staying connected during the summer. Last year, we joined the “We Love Loomis” campaign and attended casual meet-ups at many local businesses to show our support during the pandemic. This gave many of us the opportunity to stay connected, learn more about each other and to simply enjoy the camaraderie. No rules…. Just attend when you can. I will put together a simple schedule, but my thought is to schedule informal summer gatherings on the first and third Wednesday of the month, each with a new location.
Thank you for your support and making our club successful!
We Rise by Lifting Others, Rae
Celebrating Members’ Success
Congratulations to member, Sharla Caves (shown above), who recently passed the six hour exam to become a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP). The CFP board explains that “CFP® professionals meet rigorous education, training and ethical standards.” This professional designation requires extensive study and according to Kaplan Financial Education, “The overall pass rate for the CFP® exam in 2020 was 63%.” The club is so proud of your accomplishment, Sharla!
Mayor and member Jenny Knisley represented Loomis on the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce Cap to Cap trip to Washington DC. It was the 50th annual delegation sent to the nation’s capital advocating for greater Sacramento region.
Attend SNR Development Retreat in July
Any club member interested in learning more about how she can contribute to our club’s effectiveness is invited to attend the Sierra Nevada Region Development Retreat on July 30-31 at the Atlantis in Reno. Enjoy the fun, share your ideas and discover new ways our club can change lives. Let President Rae know if you are interested in attending.
Meet Nancy Hogan
Nancy Hogan has been a Soroptimist member since 2009. She indicated that former president, Brenda Newsom asked her to join. “But I was also looking for a way to give back,” said Nancy. She went on to become president of the club herself. “What I enjoy most is raising money to give it away,” said Nancy.
Nancy and her husband Brian own Loomis Self-Storage and 4 LogoGear, a promotional products and apparel company. “Well, I work with my husband….so far, we have not killed each other!” said Nancy. When she isn’t working at Loomis Self Storage, delivering Meals on Wheels, taking notes as the Secretary at the Loomis Senior L.I.F.E. Center or volunteering for Soroptimist, she says she has the most fun playing with her 4 (so far) grandkids.

Center, indicated that May is Older Americans Month in the United States. “The recognition celebrates older Americans and their contributions,” said Jenny. “This raises awareness about issues related to age and aging.”Our club founded the Loomis Senior L.I.F.E.
