To fulfill our mission of providing women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment, Soroptimist International of Loomis Basin offers grants for high school and college students as well as elementary school teachers and community leaders. The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Award of up to $1000 is for women who provide the primary financial support for their families and are enrolled in a vocational skills training program, community college or undergraduate degree program to improve their skills and employability. Last year, Soroptimist clubs awarded $3.1 million in education awards to 2269 deserving women. Apply through the Soroptimist Live Your Dream portal www.bit.ly/LYDA-apply and select the “Loomis Basin” club.
The Loomis Soroptimist Investing in Dreams Award is for girls who are students at Del Oro High School. The award recognizes girls who demonstrate leadership as community volunteers, especially on projects impacting women and girls. Applicants may be awarded up to $1000, and the award can be used for trade school, community college or other higher education expenses.
The Loomis club’s Dream It, Be It Award is offered to girls at Confluence West High School, located on the Del Oro campus, who participated in the multi-session Soroptimist Dream It Be It: Career Support for Girls program. The award can be used for trade school, community college or other higher education expenses.
The Soroptimist Ruby Award for Women Helping Women recognizes a local woman who makes a difference in the lives of women or girls, through her professional or personal efforts. Colleagues are encouraged to nominate outstanding women in our community.
Loomis Soroptimist Teacher Grants are for Loomis Union School District teachers. The grants support special projects that that enrich students’ education and have lasting impact over multiple years. These Loomis Soroptimist grants of $100 – $250 have been used for books, costumes, hands-on math, musical instruments, gardening projects and Science, Technology, Engineer and Math (STEM) programs.
Applications are posted on the Soroptimist Loomis website Awards page The deadline to submit applications is November 15. The Live Your Dream applications are also due November 15 and must be submitted through the Soroptimist Live Your Dream portal.
Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. Soroptimist International of Loomis Basin is a 501(c)(3) and delivers the Soroptimist Dream It Be It: Career Support for Girls, supports the Loomis L.I.F.E. senior center, maintains the Loomis Little Free Library at the Train Depot, and is involved in other local and international projects focused on education.
